Candle Care and Safety

Candle Care and Safety

Please review the following safety and care instructions before using your candle.

FIRST BURN

Your first burn is important. Burn your candle long enough to develop a full melt pool (liquid wax reaches full diameter of candle). This prevents tunnelling. The first burn should be 2-3 hours.

TRIM YOUR WICK

Trim your wick to 1/4" before each use. This prevents soot build up.

BURN TIME

DO NOT BURN for more than 4 hours at a time. STOP BURNING your candle when there is only 1/2" of wax left. This 1/2" layer of wax protects the glass jar from becoming too hot on the bottom. Once you reach 1/2" of wax at the bottom, it's time for a new candle.

SAFETY

Please be safe when burning your candle. Candles can be a serious fire hazard if not used properly. The following steps will help minimize your risk when you burn candles in your home.

  • Follow the instructions printed on the label.
  • Trim candle wicks to a height of 5-7 mm (1/4 inch) before lighting the candle.
  • Use well ventilated candle holders that are sturdy and will not tip over. Avoid wooden or plastic holders, as these can catch fire. Use caution with glass candle holders, which can break when they get too hot.
  • Never drop objects, like matches, into candles.
  • Always burn within sight, away from flammable objects, children and pets.
  • Do not leave candles burning with no one in the room.
  • Burn on a heat resistant surface.
  • Avoid drafts.
  • Extinguish all candles before you go to sleep.
  • Teach your children to be careful around open flames. Make sure they understand that candles are not toys, or something they can eat or drink.
  • Keep wick centred.
  • Stop candle when 1/2" wax remains.
  • Do not move or touch while hot.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
